I hope this helps those looking for the first wife of William McKee of
Warren Twp.,Jefferson Co., Ohio. The Old Seceder Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant is
the primary burial ground for members of the Seceder (later United
Presbyterian) Church in Warren Twp. From a book by Powell on cemetery
inscriptions of Jefferson Co. come two possible names of wives of William
McKee:

Mary Carothers McKee, d. 1855? age unknown, is wife or daughter of William
McKee.
Sarah McKee, d. 1847, age 41?, is listed as wife of William McKee.

William is not buried here, although many other McKees are.

Robert Carrothers was the founder of Mt. Pleasant and is also buried in the
same cemetery.

As supplemental information, it seems likely that this William is one of the
9 sons of Joseph McKee (1761-1849), who is also buried in the Old Seceder
cemetery. Joseph and his sister Elizabeth McKee (b. 1770) came to America
with their father James McKee (d. 1804). Joseph McKee was a prominent farmer
in Jefferson County and owned a woollen factory. Joseph had land in the
southwest part of Warren Twp., and William McKee shows up in property tax
records beginning in 1832 as owner of a sawmill and later some acreage
nearby.

I am a descendant of Elizabeth McKee and would like to share information on
any of the descendants of James.
