Message Board Post:
I am descended from McKee's who came to New York City around 1890 from Glasgow Scotland. My great-grandfather was the last of 11 children, and the only one born in the US, in 1891. (His name was Joseph Dunn McKee.) They lived in Hells Kitchen and eventually moved to New Jersey, although I'm not sure of the year. My great-great-grandfather was James Hamilton McKee and his wife was Rachel Green McKee (married 1868 in Bridgeton, Lanark, Scotland). I don't know all of their children's names, but some are Barbara, James, Mary , Elizabeth, John and Isabella (possibly, but not sure of her name)...pretty common names. I'm still missing 4, possibly 5 of the children.
In Scotland, James Hamilton McKee was a Plumber, Journeyman and Rachel worked in the great cloth mills of Glasgow as a yarn winder, as did her parents and James' parents, who were weavers.
I am looking for any information on James and Rachel's children, where they lived, and where they eventually moved to. If this sounds familiar, or fits in with your family, any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Christy
PS. I also have a photo of James Hamilton McKee, taken in Scotland, before he came to the US. He is with 10 other men, none of whom I know names for. If you would like to see it, I will be glad to forward it on to anyone who asks.
