This is my McKee Family. I believe they had family in TN. Hope this will help, and if I can be of any help just ask.

Generation No. 1

1. Ola McKee, born 06 May 1902 in Springhill, Hempstead Co. AR.; died 02 Feb 1971 in Texarkana, Bowie Co. TX.. She was the daughter of 2. Elijah F McKee and 3. M. H. Hicks. She married (1) John Isaac Smith Abt. 1929 in Texarkana, Bowie Co. TX.. He was born 23 Feb 1903 in Montgomery, Marshall Co. AL., and died 16 Dec 1963 in Texarkana, Bowie Co. TX.. He was the son of Aaron Dave Smith and Calona Donie Harmon.

John Isaac Smith, son of Aaron Dave Smith and Donie Harmon, he was born 23rd of Feb 1903, on Merrell Mountain, Marshall County, AL. He had a quiet nature and grew up with a good sense of humor. He was of medium build, about five feet seven inches tall, olive complexion and blue eyes. There was a twinkle in his eyes when he smiled.

John was thirteen years old when his father died. In a short time the family left Marshall County, AL., and his mother married again. They lived in Madison County, AL. and Morgan County, AL. farming the land. After about three or four years of farming, the family moved to St. Louis, MO. It was probably after 1923 that the family left Missouri and settled in Texarkana, Bowie County, TX.

John met and married Ola Mc Kee in Texarkana (Bowie Co. TX. or Miller Co. AR.) or Hope, Hempstead Co. AR. in 1929 or 1930. (Have not found any records). John bought a few acres of land in a subdivision in Texarkana, (on Flower Acres Road), where resided until he died. He was employed by Kerr-McGee Plant in Texarkana, Bowie Co. TX. John died from cancer on the 16th of Dec. 1963. We now know that the cancer was caused from the chemicals used in the plant where he worked.

John's wife Ola Mc Kee, was born the 6th of May 1902, in Hope, Hempstead Co. AR. she was the daughter of Elijah F. Mc Kee and Maud Bell "Maudie" Hicks. She was of good nature, she had olive skin, dark eyes and very black hair, her hair never turned gray it was very black until the day she past away, she was about five feet 6 inches tall.. Ola was a loving mother of four and grandmother of eight.

John Smith and Ola McKee children are Howard "Smity" Lee, Charles "Charlie" Edward, Ruby Inez and Dorothy "Dot" Jane.

John Smith and Ola McKee grandchildren are Sue, Gwen, James, Roy, Debbie, Sam, Chuck, and John.

John and Ola are both buried in Chapelwood, Garden of Memories Cemetery, Kings Hwy. Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas.

Things I remember about my Grandparents, They lived in a 3 bedroom house with 1 bathroom, a kitchen / dinning room and a living room. They had two small shads out back. They always had a few chickens, a milk cow, horses, and they would have a pig or two. They had pecan trees, Black Walnut trees, and fruit trees. They had a very large garden. Grandmother would do a lot of canning from their garden and fruit trees, she would put up pecans and walnuts for baking. She would always have fresh milk, cream and butter. I enjoyed helping her when it was time to make the butter. I remember catching chicken on Sunday morning for a big Sunday dinner.

My grandparents believed in family, the land that John bought, he split up and gave a lot to each one of there children. They each had their own home with a little peace of land. Grandmother would always have breakfast for us grandkids before we had to go to school. We where all very close growing up together.

I remember very little about my grandfather, but what I do remember was that he was a very firm and quiet man, always working either at work or at home. I don't remember ever seeing him just setting around, he was always doing something. He would make toys for us kids out of old coffee can lid's and old milk bottles with cloth's pins. We would help him pick up and shell pecans and walnuts.

I had a very special bond with my grandmother. She always had time for me when I needed it. I still think about her a lot and wonder if she would be prod of me now. She was a very kind and loving lady, and I miss her very much.
