My wife's McKee family goes back only to Thomas, Jr. who settled in Oklahoma,
and this is what I have on that gentleman:
Reared in McKeesport, Allegheny Cty, PA. Notes from Howard Holmes from LDS
1998: "1820 census Armstrong Cty, Sugar Creek Twp, pg 315." - "1850 census
Armstrong Co, PA, Plum Creek Twp, pg 348, Thomas McKee is 32...with wife 27 (name
illegible)"; Luise Green writes (1998) Thomas found "in 1850 in Pioneer Twp,
Cedar Co., IA. Moved there with his father-in-law, Andre, and wife Elizabeth.
Five children listed: James, 9, John Andre, 7 &William 5 born in PA plus Samuel
3, Elizabeth 1 born in IA. According to this census they were in IA by 1847."
Luise adds that she has them living in IA in the 1860 census but not the 1870
and that by 1880 they were living in Peoria Cty, IL. Lived in Mechanicsville,
IA near Farmington,IL (source: Nina E. McKee, Mrs. Byron McKee, Howard C.
Holmes' nephew). Jessie writes that Thomas went to California in the Gold Rush and
"died on the way home of locked bowels" Jan 25, 1889.
I'm not sure if those two counties are near each other, but perhaps the above
will be of some help. Let me know if it is.
