When I was a child one of the benefits of driving to the inner harbor was
the wonderful scent of spices wafting through the air. The aroma from
McCormick's was just as much a landmark for me as the brick and mortar of
Fort McHenry or the Utz potato chip stall at Cross Street Market.
Well I think they built the Marriott Baltimore Inner Harbor about where the
McCormick's Factory was. When my Grandmother passed away a few years ago, I
stayed there while I was in town for her funeral. The view from my room was
spectacular. It was very comforting to sit at the window looking out at
Federal Hill and the Harbor where some of my ancestors first step foot on
the new world. I could see my Granny's imprint all over the city and feel
her presence to console me in her passing. I could almost smell the mixture
of cloves and cinnamon.
