Subject: [MD-BaltimoreCity] Charles G. Linthicum 1800s MD to KY and back to MD

Hello,

I am very much hoping someone can help me with my Linthicum brick wall.

My 3rd great grandfather, Charles G. Linthicum, was born June 1820 in
Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky. I proved this through his obituary and his death
certificate. Census records state that Charles was born in Kentucky and that
his parents were born in Maryland.

Charles G., whose nickname was "Kentucky Charles", moved from Kentucky to
Maryland by 1854 and married my 3rd great grandmother, Mary Jane Miller, October
12, 1854, probably in Baltimore or Howard County, Maryland. Mary Jane Miller
was born in the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, the daughter of Denton
Miller and Sarah Ann Cole or Coale.

Their marriage announcement in the Baltimore Sun read:
The Sun, Baltimore, Saturday, October 14, 1854, page 2
Married
On the 12th instant, by Rev. E. Yeates Reese,
CHARLES G. LINTHICUM, of Kentucky, to
MARY JANE MILLER, of Howard County, Md.

Charles Linthicum and his wife, Mary, settled in Baltimore where he was a
Veterinary Surgeon for 50 years before his death on December 14, 1898. He and his
wife Mary were buried in Louden Park Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland.

These are my questions:

1. I have not been able to locate my Charles G. Linthicum in the 1850 census,
but have found him 1860 through 1880 in Baltimore City, Maryland. I was
wondering if anyone has found him in the 1850 census. He might have still lived in
Kentucky in 1850 or was enroute to Maryland and was listed in another state,
or was in fact already in Maryland by 1850 and I just couldn't find him yet.

2. The book, "Genealogy of the Linthicum and Allied Families" by Matilda P.
Badger, 1934. Baltimore, Maryland; mentions that Mary Jane Miller, was the
second wife of Charles G. Linthicum. I would like to confirm this. I have seen a
marriage record in the following book:

Marriage Records of Mason County, Kentucky Volume IV 1834-1844
Name: Charles G. Linthicum
Spouse: Martha Jeans
Marriage Date: 20 Dec 1843
Nathan Jeans, B.

3. I wondered if this could possibly be the first marriage of my 3rd great
grandfather, Charles G. Linthicum and if he had children by this marriage. If so
they were not listed living with him in 1860 through 1880 census in Baltimore
City, Maryland. Incidentally, Matilda's book stated that Charles' middle name
was Govans, although I wondered if his middle name was really Griffith.

4. Matilda Badger's book also stated that my Charles was the son of Charles
Griffith Linthicum and his wife, Louisa Meriwether. I have no definitive proof
and would like to prove my lineage. Could anyone please help me prove or
disprove the relationship between my Charles G. Linthicum and that fact that his
parents were Charles Griffith Linthicum and Louisa Meriwether?

5. Did Charles Griffith Linthicum, the (father?) of my Charles, move to
Maysville, Mason County Kentucky and did his wife, Louisa Meriwether Linthicum move
to Kentucky with him or did she die earlier in Maryland? Did Charles
Griffith Linthicum, (supposedly the son of Slingsby Linthicum and Mary Griffith),
move to Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky and die there?

I found the following information on the internet:

Probate records
Mason County, Kentucky
Charles G. Linthicum 1826
Elizabeth Linthicum 1826
Heirs of Charles G. Linthicum 1829
Lydia Linthicum 1834
Mary Linthicum 1834
Slingsby Linthicum 1834
Charles by gdn. [guardian??] 1834

6. I am wondering if these were probate records for Charles Griffith
Linthicum and that the Charles Linthicum mentioned in the year 1834 was my 3rd great
grandfather, Charles. He would have about age 14 in 1834. Would these be three
separate probate records, in the years 1826, 1829 and 1834? Would someone have
access to the Liber (book) and Folio (page) numbers of the above mentioned
probate records?

*7. I am especially very interested in obtaining copies of the probate
records listed above. If there is anyone in Mason County, Kentucky, or elsewhere,
who could procure those records for me, in exchange I would pay for their help,
or I would be willing to do research for them in Maryland at the Maryland
State Archives.

Also, I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who is a descendant
of "Kentucky Charles." I would also like to hear from anyone researching or
descending from Denton Miller and Sarah Ann Cole or Coale of the Howard District
of Anne Arundel County, Maryland and Howard County, Maryland as I don't know
who their parents were.

For those interested, you can see photos of the tombstones of My 3rd great
grandparents, Charles G. Linthicum and his wife Mary Jane Miller Linthicum and
several of their children at:

Thank you very much and any information on any of my questions would be very
much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Dee Gabler,
a descendant of Charles Linthicum through my grandmother, Ruth Linthicum.
