You can find an 1865 map showing Washington County (as well as any other
Maryland County) election Districts at

The direct link to District 5 is at:

It looks like Hancock was about in the middle of the District. Note the web
site says the county was redistricted between 1859 and 1865, so this map is
probably good for the 1870 Census, but Districts may have been different in
1860.

Hello,

Can anyone please tell me, in 1870, what areas of Washington County, around
Hancock, was included in Dist 5? Was this area West or East of Hancock?
Did Dist 5 include the areas along the Potomac River toward Allegany Co, MD
and Morgan Co, WV?
