Queen Elizabeth paid for ship passage for over 14000 palatine Germans. For two reasons the Palatine Germans in most part poses skills that were desirable in the new world and she also wanted to shore up the protestant belief that was held by most of these palatines Germans.
you are correct in your thinking bound out and indenture servants are one and the same. I believe which term you use is what part of the America that you were in. Remember if the father or mother died during the voyage over ,The captain still demanded and got full payment. If children were the ones survived, The male was indenture until age 21 and the girls until the age 18. If the girl became pregnant an additional 2 years was added. If the male created the pregnancy he too received an additional 2 years. This is where I believe that the Quakers and the Palatine Germans got the ideal to purchase slaves and after they recovered their expenses. made them free men. This is only an theory on my part, I have not got in to researching this for a fact.
My ancestors arrived in Phila 1731, Then showed up in Fredrick Md. in 1742. The indentured servant had no rights and for all practicable purpose did not exist, Except in the church records. Much to our disappointment we have been unable to find such records.

I may have missed it, but I have the thought "rather twice then not at
all", That the some of the families that arrived on American shores, back
in the 1700,s
were so poor that they did Not have the fund,s to pay for the trip
across the ocean, hence they were "bound out" when they arrived, (there
maybe other term,s used also) to pay for the cost. The cost being paid by
the one who "hired" them (bailed them out, so to speak).
I had read about the above in times past, and if I recall correctly,
upon the completing their time, they were released and given among other
thing,s a new suit of clothing.
You folk,s who have learned so much about Your ancestor, are blessed. As
for me, I would like to know "what happened" between the time (1738),
when they arrived in Phila., PA, and found settled on a farm in
Lanc.Co., PA in 1741.
Of course, with such "wondering", is what make,s family history so
interesting to us researcher,s. In other word,s, it keep,s us
digging.....
