Do you mean the Montgomery STERLING that went to Belmont Co., OH? On 3 July 1839, Belmont Co., OH, Montgomery STERLING m. Hannah PATTON. A Google search shows many more PATTON marriages there.

Perhaps St. Paul's, Kent County, would be a good place to look for STERLING records, as well as other places on the Eastern Shore. Perhaps Montgomery's son Henry was named for an ancestor.
