My husbands Aunt Faye, was the dau. of Charles Adon Isbell, who m. Mary Elizabeth "Bessie" Ward(my husbands grandmother and she certainly was not the one that was deaf either)
Francis Faye Isbell, b. 13 July 1907, Midlothian, Ellis Co., Texas. and died July 30, 2008 was a school teacher all her adult life. She was sharp as a tack. Bob and I when visiting her a bt 2002 took a tape recorder over for family information as she loved to talk about who was who. She had a stroke a couple of yrs ago but recovered mentally and regained most physical abilities. Her dau. Nella Faye Isom told me a few weeks ago that Aunt Faye was playing dominoes a few days before she went to the hospital , where she died last month, here in Baylor Hosp, Waxahachie, where I live(address is Waxahachie but live 4 mi from Maypearl).
Charles Adon Isbell was the son of Francis Marion Isbell and Susan Caroline Maxwell, Susan's mother was Elizabeth Hornbuckle and the Hornbuckles had Cherokee heritage. Susan was 1/16th Cherokee. She died in AR with the birth of her twins. Charles Adon came to Ellis Co. soon after her death.
I don't know which of the Isbell's was deaf, etc. but if you check the census records, there was at least 1 census that wanted to know about deafness, etc. If you want a file, let me know.
