You asked what Calledonia and Linton were......
The 1783 Tax Assessments usually gave two names when an area was not a large
town - Elizabethtown was Hagerstown and where it is mentioned, you only see
one name.
Upper Oldtown and Cumberland are always mentioned together in these records
as are Lower Antietam and Sharpsburg. I am thinking the first is the name
of the Hundred and the second is the name of the town or village within that
Hundred. I believe there is a map in "Land of the Living" that shows
Linton. In checking the records, Calledonia is a tract name - when it
lists - pt., then acres, it is a large tract of land owned in parts by more
than one person.
