In the past, I've heard people mention something about going
to the courthouse, and looking in a book where the records were
kept dealing with illegitimate children. This book was the record
of where the pregnant un-wed mothers-to-be would go to swear
the child on the reluctant-to-admit fathers, so that they could get
child support, etc.

I'm interested in finding this in the Bedford Courthouse. I went
up a few weeks back, before Christmas, but I think the person that
I talked to wasn't too familiar with genealogical research, so she didn't
(or acted like she didn't) have a clue what I was talking about.

If anybody knows, I'd appreciate you dropping me a line.
