Re: Allegany Co. Genealogical Society
No one has to join the ACGS to benefit from the Cemetery
Committee's efforts. One can make a query to them, in
writing since they are not on-line. Ed Twigg is putting
the cemetery information into the computer, but has the
information. However the AGCS has already published the
Book <Rose Hill Cemetery, Cumberland, Maryland-An Inventory>
so what Ed is doing is adding in later interments. The book
is $25 + 3.75S&H, and MD residents have to add $1.25 state
tax. Orders may be placed to:
Allegany County Genealogical Society
% Mrs. Beverly Bittner
108 West Street
La Vale, MD 21502-7312.
The AGCS Library is open to the public also. Located at 215
Bowen Street in south Cumberland, it is opened Mon, Tues and
Fri 9-2, excluding holidays. It is on the second floor, and
not handicap accessible (stairs).
The AGCS publishes a quarterly newsletter that includes
genealogical articles and records of Allegany Co., MD and
nearby WV & PA. One who lives some distance away and
cannot attend their meetings can subscribe to this
newsletter, "The Old Pike Post" for $7.00 per year. Single
membership in ACGS is only $10 per year, or $12/year family.
General membership meetings, again open to the public, are
held on the third Thursday Mar-Apr-May-Jun-Sept-Oct-Nov. The
Dec. meeting is a luncheon open to member and their guests.
Meetings are held at Allegany College (formerly ACC) in the
Library, and are at 1PM for Mar, May, Sep, Nov. Evening
meetings, starting at 6PM, are held Apr, Jun & Oct. The
programs vary depending on availability of speakers. Dick
Koch, a member of ACGS.
