I am trying to find more information about Griffith or Griffin Johnson b.December 02, 1767 Allegheny, MD d. 1840. He married in 1787 Naomi Elizabeth CHENEY b. 1769 d.1830. I have seen in some places mention of 12 or 13 children, but have never been able to find a list of those kids. I am trying to link my 3G Grandfather Cheney Johnson b. Abt. 1812 in MD, d. September 18, 1871 in Franklin, St. Mary Parish, LA. He married Elizabeth Maria SMITH b. January 26, 1822 in New Haven, New Haven, CT, d. February 18, 1902 in Franklin, St. Mary Parish, LA. They were married August 03, 1842 in either CT or MD, and then removed to Franklin, LA. Cheney was a part owner & captain of steamboats on the Bayou Teche & in the Atchafalaya River Basin & on the Mississippi. He was a sugar planter as well, & a member of St. Mary's Episcopal church in Franklin.
It seems to me that Naomi (wife of Griffin) Cheney Johnson might have been a little old to still be having kids (she would have been about 42), and more likely Griffith & Naomi were Cheney's grandparents. The link I have so far is mostly just a guess. I thought Cheney was an unusual name so I figured it had to be a surname farther up the tree, which is how I came upon Griffin & Naomi.
Anybody out there got any ideas?
Thanks,
Beth
