God Bless America - Land That I Love --- Yes, I love America. I do believe
that it is the best country in the world. Yes, I do and that is my personal
opinion. On the other hand, I do believe that others have the right to have
pride in their own country. That his their right. As it is my right to
believe in mine.
America has been termed the great experiment. America is unique. This year,
we are celebrating only our 226th year as a nation. A mere babe in the woods
as compared to many other countries. We are a vast nation over two thousand
miles from ocean to ocean. We have vast stores of national resources. We are
not an homogenous nation. Our people have come from virtually everywhere in
the world. We are a land of opportunity. Virtually anyone can come here and
do well. We are a caring nation. In times of war and in times of tragedy, we
have sent our men and women abroad to help the people of other nations. We
are a diverse nation. We have no national religion. We have no national
language. Each of may adapt as we see fit.
I have traveled abroad throughout much of Europe and have worked closely with
individuals from countries across the globe. I have met wonderful people and
not so wonderful people from many different countries; and have concluded we
are all very much alike. We do right. We do wrong. We do some things well. We
make mistakes.
On this 4th of July weekend, I urge all Americans to celebrate our America. A
land of liberty, opportunity, and hope. A land where each and everyone one of
us has the opportunity to go as far and do as much as our abilities, our
drive, and our initiative will take us.
This is a genealogy forum. My roots come predominently from Scotland. I know
for a fact that I have distant cousins in many countries; including
Australia. I would not deny them the right to say that their country is the
best. I do not expect them to deny me the right to say that America is the
