I am pursuing some leads about the Raley family. I noticed in an
obit that
Amos Broadwater had been born in Loudoun Co, VA. I had thought
that most
people in Loudoun would not have come back to MD and PA, but more
likely
headed south, but I am obviously uninformed
Beverly,
You didn't give a time frame for Amos coming "back to MD and Pa",
however, the few folks that belong to my THRASHER line were born
in VA and came to Garrett County about 1860 after the railroad
made it to the mountains in the mid 1850's and the building of
the hotels (and especially the Deer Park Hotel) was started. The
earliest link I can find on the Thrasher line has them starting
out in Tennessee. So, I would guess we can't assume everyone
migrated south, some came north.
Happy Holidays to all,
Pat-T
