And my husband's grandfather always said if you cut the wrong end off a
cucmber, it will be bitter - never showed me which end was the right end!

Here we go - having ANOTHER food discussion! Just like the old Potato Candy
party we had last Fall!

My grandmother thought cucumbers were poisonous (or at least not good for
you) unless soaked in salt water. I think cukes get bitter when
older/larger and maybe salt water leaches some of the bitterness. She also
grew rhubarb and we all knew you only ate the red part and none of the
white and definitely not leaves. We all survived.
