I would say it is Railroad - I have an ancestor who was shown as a Road
Master, and when I got his obituary, it said he worked for the Coal & Coke
Railroad. I'm not sure, but isn't a fireman on a railroad the one who keeps
the engine stoked?

Subject: [MDALLEGA] Question about an occupation

Hi Everyone!! I recently found my John and Sophia (Oss) McDonald in the 1870

census. I actually found them by accident. Can anyone tell me what a
"Fireman on Rd" is? Is it an actual fireman, or is it something else? It is
the first job other than Miner that i have found for John, thats why I'm
asking.

Thanks!!!!

Nickole
