Subject: [MDALLEGA] Unsolved Cessna murder

On March 31, 1931 in Cumberland, Md, John K. Cessna was murdered. I am
trying to find out "whodunit" and/or if this crime was ever solved.
Local Cumberland newspapers reported that a William R. Dayton was
arrested as a suspect, but he was later released. A search of the
newspapers for several months after April of 1931 failed (or I missed)
any further information. Searching newspapers is difficult and time
consuming. Courthouse records are not recorded under the victim, only
the accused, and since I don't know that information, I haven't been
able to find anything there. In order to do that I would have to
search & read all the dockets marked State vs. ? starting in April 1931
- ? to find the one I needed. Nothing was listed under the Dayton
name. A check with MD State Attorney's office said they do not have
files for as far back as 1931. Does anyone know the outcome, or can
anyone suggest how I can more easily find this information? Thanks,
