Joe!
I asked the question. Finally got in this afternoon. As you stated so
well, it is quite limited. I had hope of finding my great grandfather who
emigrated to Maryland from Prussia about 1850, married an American woman of
German decent. The couple had 3 children born in either Cecil or Baltimore
County in the late 1860s before they followed the railroad to Ohio. I can
find no record of marriage, births of the children (one of which was my
grandfather) or of my great grandmother's family. Two trips to Maryland
Archives pulled blanks for both families. I have birth dates which have
followed in bible but no actual records from the state of MD.
All the rest of the ancestors are Irish and we have had no problem in
the USA or in Ireland with official records for them.
I was really hoping that emigration records pre Ellis Island and for
Baltimore would be available. These ancestors did not do census either in MD
or OH.
Thanks
Mary Ellen Chambers
