What this led me to believe was that it was possible that Susan was a
McCrobie by MARRIAGE, having married Winfield S. McCrobie, conceived
Winfield Scott, and then before his birth something happened to Winfield Sr,
either he split, or died, and she immediately married Henry Bray in 68, and
gave birth to Winfield in 69 or even in 68.

Ruth, from your message above, I am still looking around for this Winfield.

I don't know if this fits at all, however, there is a marriage record for ---
Winfield Scott BRAY, 24 (1869) of Garrett Co., married Aug 1 1893 to Virginia A. LIPSCOMB, 20, (1873), of Preston Co, WV. Both were listed as single at the time of the marriage.
