Ruth, Do you have the census page numbers so I can go look at them again? I
can't lay my hand on my census folders (were moving next week). I want to
check them out at Ancestry.

Pat, The older Winfield S. McCrobie appears on the 1950 census, in the home
of Elisha McCrobie, as a one year old. The Winfield Scott Bray that was 24
at the time of his Marriage to Virginia A. Lipscomb is my great grandfather.
He was listed on the 1880 census in the home of Henry Bray as 11 year old,
but on the 1870 census he was listed as Winfield S. McCrobie age 1.
Actually he is listed as Winifred and even lists him as female, but I'm
fairly certain that's just an error on the census takers part. My uncle
Patrick on my mom's side was recorded as female on his first census record.

Where did you find the marriage record? Does it say where they got married?
I'm finding conflicting information on that...someone in the Lipscomb family
tree has loaded their tree to the internet, and it has the correct date, but
says they got married in Preston County WV, which is were she was from. I
found another record that says they got married in Garrett Co.

What this led me to believe was that it was possible that Susan was a
McCrobie by MARRIAGE, having married Winfield S. McCrobie, conceived
Winfield Scott, and then before his birth something happened to Winfield Sr,
either he split, or died, and she immediately married Henry Bray in 68, and
gave birth to Winfield in 69 or even in 68.

Ruth, from your message above, I am still looking around for this Winfield.

I don't know if this fits at all, however, there is a marriage record
for ---
Winfield Scott BRAY, 24 (1869) of Garrett Co., married Aug 1 1893 to
Virginia A. LIPSCOMB, 20, (1873), of Preston Co, WV. Both were listed as
single at the time of the marriage.
