Bonnie, are you sure that Elisha is the father of Susan McCrobie? She is
not listed as part of his household in 1850. Of course she would have been
17 or 18, so she could have married by then. Someone told me that the
census's prior to 1850 didn't name the children, but listed the number of
males by age group and the number of females by age group.

I will get you as much of my family as I can later this evening.

Hey, Pat!

This marriage record makes it very clear there is more than one Winfield!

The way I put my records together, after hearing from Ruth Koontz is that
this Winfield Scott (McCrobie) Bray would be her Great Grandfather, but the
age of the Winfield Scott you have the marriage for is not right to be the
Winfield S McCrobie who appears on the census record with Elisha and Azenth
McCrobie in 1850. Elisha is the father of Susan McCrobie, who married Henry
Bray.

Ruth also has the Wilfield S McCrobie who is 1/6 on the 1870 census, and
shown as Winfield S age 11 on the 1880, this time showing his name as Bray.

There is a big gap between the boy who is 1/6 in 1850, Could the first boy
in 1850 have died? That's what I originally indicated in my notes, because I
couldn't find any Winfield in the 1860 census. Could the one who is 1 in
1870 (that would make his birth year 1869, like the marriage record shows)
have been named for an older brother or "Uncle" who died as a child?
(meaning he could be the child of Elisha, which would make him the BROTHER
of Susan).

I need to go back and re-study my notes. Let's keep this going...

What this led me to believe was that it was possible that Susan was a
McCrobie by MARRIAGE, having married Winfield S. McCrobie, conceived
Winfield Scott, and then before his birth something happened to Winfield Sr,
either he split, or died, and she immediately married Henry Bray in 68, and
gave birth to Winfield in 69 or even in 68.

Ruth, from your message above, I am still looking around for this Winfield.

I don't know if this fits at all, however, there is a marriage record for
---
Winfield Scott BRAY, 24 (1869) of Garrett Co., married Aug 1 1893 to
Virginia A. LIPSCOMB, 20, (1873), of Preston Co, WV. Both were listed as
single at the time of the marriage.
