Subject: [MDALLEGA] United Methodist Ministers Data
Date: Sat, 11 Oct 2003 14:04:50 -0500
I now have the United Methodist Conference Journal Memoris Index and will be
glad to do lookups as I have time. Several on the list have asked for
information from time to time on various Methodist/EUB clergy. Memoris are
basically an obituary for clergy and/or spouse printed in the conference
journal. I will not be able to tell you what is in the memoir, but I should
be able to tell you the journal and page number and probably birth and death
dates. Please read the following informatio. If you want to reply off line
please do so at Rev. Mark McKnight Holston Annual
Conference United Methodist Church
This database was designed as an index to a resource, not as a resource
itself. This database
does not contain complete biographical information, or a complete pastoral
record, of the
individuals listed herein. This database is an index to the memoirs printed
in the various annual
conference journals held by the General Commission on Archives and History
of The United
Methodist Church. The database only contains information up to the 1968
conference Journals
of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Methodist Protestant Church, the
Methodist Episcopal
Church, South and The Methodist Church. It also contains information up to
the 1968
conference journals of the Evangelical Association/Church, United
Evangelical Church, the
Church of the United Brethren in Christ and the Evangelical United Brethren.
If the person you
are researching was a Methodist and died after 1967 or if the person was an
Evangelical or
United Brethren and died after 1967 then he or she will not be in this
database. The database
gives you the information to determine in what journal, year, and page the
memoir appears.
You will still need to locate the journal in order to get at the
information. You can do this by
either contacting the Commission or the appropriate annual conference
archives.
The database contains the following information: An ID number, unique for
each record; the
name of the person; the birth date of the person; the date of death of the
person; the
denomination to which the person belonged; the conference to which the
person belonged; the
U. S. state or country in which the person died; the conference journal in
which the memoir
appears; the date of the journal and the page in the journal on which the
memoir appears. If for
any reason we could not be certain about the information we then entered an
'na' for not
applicable. The reason for an 'na' could be as simple as the information was
not in the
memoir, or that the information was not clear (e.g. instead of giving a
month one author wrote
that the person died in the 'month of roses' and mentioned no year).
