This geezer used to go to Crystal Park Roller Rink on old Rt. 40. It was
located further up in LaVale close to the Six Mile House(also now gone)
going west on Rt. 40. The Crystal Park area also contained a Drive In
Movie Theatre in 1950's.
By late 50's the Roller Rink became a Crystal Food Market. There were 2
Drive-in movies right there together ---the Rt. 40 Drive-In & The Crystal.
For anyone who has been to the area lately, it was located where the
McDonalds, Ruby Tuesday & Giant Eagle Food Market are now on old National
Pike/Rt 40.
Closer to Cumb. I remember my mother speaking of an Amusement type park in
the Narrows. Could be close to Locust Grove area. She said they used
to take the trolley cars up to that area for picnics.
But I always thought of it as being at the end of Mechanic & Centre St.
area.
On Rt. 220, there is Fairgo(the Fairgrounds.) Back in 40's they had
Fairs but the big thing was a few weeks of horse racing during the summer.
Most Beautiful Half-Mile Track in the Country!!!!!
Then there was the Celanese Swimming Pool next to the Amcelle/Celanese
Plant on Rt. 220. Perhaps at one time it was a larger recreational area.
In the 50's a large picnic area along with the swimming pool.
Take Care
