I wondered about Clarysville. The mysterious letter does not really look
much like a "y" (it rises above the other letters), but otherwise Clarys
seems the most logical possibility.

Jacob Fouty's family lived in both Allegany Co. and Hampshire Co. at
various times (he himself skipped back and forth and owned property in both
counties). To add to the confusion, there was also an unrelated family in
Hampshire/Mineral Counties named Fouts. The Fouty family's name was
originally "Fauth," apparently (the immigrant was Baltzer Fauth), and I
always look for several variations (Foutz, Foutee, Fautey, etc.), though
Jacob himself signed his declaration very clearly as Fouty.

I think I'll do a little more War of 1812 research!
