Interesting thought....
For whatever it's worth, my Allegany county ancestors migrated west with
the railroad.
John and Julia MALONE, who lived in Westernport (both from Ireland,
married in Cumberland in 1851) had 8 children together (Julia had 7
children with her first husband, John WHITE). Several died young, but
John, Michael and Daniel all moved west with the RR. They settled in
Evanston WY/Ogden UT/Pocatello ID areas, then Los Angeles CA. One of
Julia's sons, James WHITE also moved out west, but I am not positive why
or where (his mother's obit said he lived "in the far west" but with a
name like James White, it won't be easy to track him down)....

Hope that gives you something useful.
Susan Malone :-)

Like to start a survey that might help in migration routes.
Can anyone tell us how they are connected to Allegany. Where there
ancestors
went off "to" when they left. The reason if they know. That might liven
up
the list and give us an idea as to why our ancestors went and why.

The connection I have is my some of my relative connections lived in or
near
Allegany and my great grandfather Owen T. Sealock was buried there. He
lived
in Virginia in Warren country most of his adult life. I can't find a son
or
daughter living there. I have checked for grandchildren and found none
so am
curious.
