A couple of reasons why your family member may not be listed on the SSDI.............
If he/she was receiving a Soc. Sec. pension, but is not listed on the SSDI, no-one ever submitted a request for the Death Benefit.
When my husband's grandmother died in 1953 the undertaker applied for it [with our O.K.]. We didn't even know we could. It was a small amount but since she had no insurance, it helped pay for her funeral.
My grandfather died in 1957. He received a railroad pension, so was not eligible for Soc. Sec.
My father-in-law died in March of 1939. He didn't work long enough under Soc. Sec. for his wife and children to receive any benefits, so his wife was not eligible even though the undertaker checked, just in case.
I'm sure there are other reasons, but these are the ones I'm familiar with.
