I called St. Mary's on Oldtown. I talked with a nice lady there and she told
me something about the names and dates of Cath. Churches there. Seems there
were name changes around your time period where the Cumberland St. Patrick's
had been St Mary's and was renamed... Maybe you should call the church
office and inquire about this... Wish I had remembered more of our
conversation... to help you - Karen Hangsleben (TX)

Subject: [MDALLEGA] St. Mary's; Cumberland
Wondered if someone could offer some ideas. We're trying to trace my great
grandfather and his family. He went by Joseph Andres in 1896 and joined St.
Peters and Paul Catholic Church in Cumberland, which was the church of his
wife, Mary Bealky. There is a notation on St. Peters and Paul's membership
records by Joseph's name showing St. Mary's, and what looks like S.
Cumberland though we cannot be positive because something seems to be cut
off. We are assumming this means he may have transferred his membership
from a St. Mary's church. The St. Mary's on Old Town Rd. was not
established until 1900 so that can't be the right church. I called St.
Patricks just in case, but they don't show him on their records. She
suggested I try St. Mary's at Lanacome County but she says it's about 20
minutes away from Cumberland so I doubt that can be the right church, though
I called and was told to call back in the middle of August to talk with the
person who could help me.
Does anyone know of a St. Mary's that would have been in South Cumberland
from around 1890 (his immigration date) and 1896 (his marriage date and the
date he joined St. Peters and Paul)? If so, do you know where I can find
these records?
Thank you!!
