Subject: [ANNE ARUNDEL CO LIST:] Hood family brick wall (and Boyer and Jeffreys)
Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 20:27:44 -0700 (PDT)
Help! I have hit an absolute brick wall with my Hood ancestors. Looking for
info (any and all) on the following family:
ELIZABETH HOOD b +- 1780-90 - d. 1876 married LEWIS/Louis HOOD +- 1810 (can't
find corroboration of this other than an application for a pension for the war
of 1812.) Lewis Hood supposedly died 1840 in ANNE ARUNDEL County prior to the
1840 census.
Elizabeth's maiden name was BOYER, (father = NICHOLAS BOYER, mother = RACHEL
STEVENS; marriage location was Baltimore, MD) and Elizabeth had at least two
brothers named REZIN and JESSE. (They were "witness" to her marriage to Lewis
on the pension application.)
Elizabeth and Lewis had at least 2 sons, WILLIAM HOOD, born +- 1815, and REZIN,
b+- 1820. They also had at least one daughter, DELILAH HOOD, who married (???)
Franklin. WILLIAM HOOD married MATILDA HANSON (born 1821) 2/4/1842 in the
Howard District of ANNE ARUNDEL County (which became Howard County.) Rezin
married Margaret (???) and the 1860 census also shows a Joshua Stinchcomb
living with them (aged 21.)
William and Matilda had several children (like clockwork actually), Elizabeth b
1844, Mary Elizabeth b 1846, Thomas H. b 1848, and AMANDA, born 1851. The 1860
census shows a young girl, Josephine Busby or Busley, living with them. She is
listed as age 2.
I can find William and Matilda on various Anne Arundel and Howard County
Censuses until 1870 where they disappear. (At least, I haven't found them to
date....) Matilda re-appears with her daughter AMANDA HOOD JEFFREYS
in the ANNE ARUNDEL County 1880 census.
The Hoods seemed to live for many years in the Elk Ridge Landing area of Howard
County although Elizabeth can be found living with her son Rezin in the Savage
Post Office area of District 1, as well. When Matilda moved in with Amanda, the
Jeffreys were in ED#24, 4th District, in Anne Arundel County.
Any information on these families would be appreciated, especially further
corroboration of William Hood's father's name, etc., as well if anyone is aware
of any cemeteries in the Anne Arundel, Howard, or Carrol county areas that have
any of these individuals interred therein.
Thanks in advance for any info, and sorry for the long post.
