Martha Lee, the daughter of William and Ann Lee, was born in Queen Anne
Parish, Prince
Georges County Maryland, on June 20, 1699. Where did William come from? What
was Ann's surname? They lived for at least a period of time on "Cold Spring
Manor" which was a manorial estate just west of and touching on the Patuxent
River. Martha sisters Margaret, Elizabeth and Mellona and a brother John.
Martha married Abraham Laking [Lakin] in 1717 in Prince George's County.
Their children were Deborah, Elizabeth, Mary, Rachel, Ruth, Sarah Lyeth,
Martha Plummer, Benjamin, Joseph and Abraham Lakin, Jr. In 1739 they
purchased a tract of 100 acres called "Joseph and Margaret's Rest" near
Brookville in present-day Montgomery County. Abraham died in late November
or early December of 1743. She was the executrix and had the use of the home
plantation "Joseph and Margaret's Rest," for her lifetime. Martha was still
alive and active as late as 1765. Any assistance with primary or secondary
documentation of these lines and their extension greatly appreciated. Always
happy to swap files.
