Does the source of your information that David was born in Baltimore show whether he was actually born in the city or the county, or could he have been born nearby? There was a David PORTER that m. 16 Dec. 1800, Montgomery Co., MD, Mary RAY.
Have you checked the censuses from 1860 on back? Before 1850, the names of the members of the family weren't all listed, but you might find other PORTER families nearby.
Have you checked for any relationship to David Norris PORTER (14 Feb. 1858, Olena, Henderson Co., IL - 23 Apr. 1898, IA), s/o Julius P. PORTER & Henrietta MARK(S)? Is that the right area of Illinois? Can you think of any other name, date, or place clues? Do the names of any of David children match the possible ancestors above?
