Listers- this should solved some of the questions about the SSDI. I
found the link at the bottom of the SSDI search page.

People did not have to be collecting social security to be in the SSDI.
I have a relative who was 25 when he died, and he is listed.
This link does state that if the funeral home or a relative failed to
report the death to SS, then the person is not listed. Also the
majority of deaths before the 1962 computerization, are not listed, as
most of us have noticed.
