I have just found an interesting bit of information on my ancestor Madeline Simmes in the Notre Dames Archives on line. An 1859 letter states "When 3 of the daughters left St. Joseph's (school) at Emmitsburg (MD) Mrs. Simmes sent the two eldest to Mrs. Philips' near Baltimore."
Can anyone please tell me anything about this school/academy run by a Mrs. Philips near Baltimore? I'd like to try and find out more about Madeline's time spent there.
