My great grandfather Dennis J. Menton was lured away from Harlan and
Hollingsworth (ship builders)in Wilmington in the late 1890s. He was asked
to go to Sparrows Point by a Colonel Andrew G. Wilson who was formerly with
Harlan and Hollingsworth. Mr Wilson and some others from Harlan had already
gone to Sparrows Point to open a ship yard known as the Marine Department of
Maryland Steel Co. My ancestor stayed in Baltimore until 1922. Some time
between 1900 and 1922 the company was taken over by Bethlehem Shipbuilding
Corporation. Does anyone have an more information or know where I can get
it? Were there city directories of Sparrows Point?
Thanks
Nancy Menton-Lyons
