Hello,
This is my first posting here.
My ancestor is James W. Leach b. 1802-4 Maryland. He was raised in a Foster home in Salem, OH and remembered being there from at least 1809.
The Foster family (Joseph Wright) were not related to the Leach family.
In the 1800 census, at Calvert Co Maryland, there are 4 LEACH households listed:
1. Asea Leach
2. Benjamin Leach, 1
3. Benjamin Leach 2
4. Joshua Leach
I need to know if any of these men had a son born about 1802-4 in MD, and did any of these men go West to Salem, Columbiana Co OH.
Salem, OH is famous for haveing been founded and settled by Quakers, begining in 1803. Prior to that time there were almost no white settlers there.
However, not everyone was Quaker there, plenty of settlers were of other faiths, but the majority may have been Quakers coming from Maryland, NJ, VA, and PA.
Is there anyone researching the name LEACH-Leech-Leitch ?
Any Leach families go West in the time frame of 1803-9?
I 'think' that the Leach family I am looking for, may have had the son in MD as of 1802-4, then gone to Salem, OH and there they died, or other calamity fell, and they had to place the child to be raised by Non-Relatives, the neighbors who were Joseph Wright, Jr and his wife Sarah Edgar, of Bedford Co VA.
I shall appreciate your help and advice,
Best regards,
Lilly Martin
