There are very good civil records on LDS films for Alsace communities from
the late 1700's up to around 1880's. The records are in French for the
majority of this time period and very easy to decipher. They are indexed in
10 year periods, so it is very easy to find a person or person's and then go
to the films for the actual record or certificate. The problem is finding
what community your ancestors came from.

There are also numerous web sites with information on the communities of
Alsace. http://members.aol.com/robtbehra/AlsaceA-Z/GenInfoEng.htm is one of
the better ones. http://www.alsace-genealogie.com/page_acceuil_anglais.htm
is another.
