My father told me that "the courthouse was burned in the War of 1812", so we
didn't know the history of the Harris family.

I don't see how this can be. Checking web sites on the war, it never
touched Delaware, and only burned
the town of Havre de Grace in Maryland. Of course Washington was burned,
but those would be national records, and most of the archives had been
removed.

QUESTION: Is there any truth to the family story? Were any Maryland or
Delaware courthouses, especially Caroline county, MD and Kent county, DE,
destroyed in the war of 1812? Were any courthouses destroyed otherwise?
