This is an update to the information that is given here. I have since learned (through a personal history written by the youngest brother of Robert B. Chambers) that Robert's parents were Matthew Brown Chambers, b. abt. 1783/1784 in Kent Island, Kent Co., Maryland, d. 25 Apr 1854 (the Bible gives the date of death as 18 Apr 1854) and Letitia Broad(a)way, b. 1786, d. 25 Sep 1839 in Indiana. He was the oldest of their 7 children: 1. Robert Broadway Chambers (I learned his middle name from land records), 2. Sarah Chambers, b. 25 Feb 1811, d. in infancy, 3. Sally Ann Chambers, b. 20 Sep 1813, marr. 12 Jan 1832 in Franklin Co., Indiana to John Harper, 4. Richard Chambers, b. 10 Nov 1816, d. 16 Jan 1872, marr. 27 Sep 1845 in Montgomery Co., Indiana to Martha M. Maxwell, b. abt. 1824/1825 in Kentucky to Rev. David C. and Betsey Maxwell (Martha remarried after Richard's death to John J. Follick), 5. Letitia Chambers, b. 17 Nov 1820 in Delaware, marr. Levi Freeman, b. abt. 1830/18!
31 in Ohio, 6. Lydia B. Chambers, b. 30 May 1822 in Delaware, d. 4 Jun 1855, she never married and 7. William G. Chambers (who wrote the personal history), b. 26 Feb 1826 in Queen Annes Co., Maryland, d. 13 Aug 1907 in Rossville, Vermillion Co., Illinois, marr. 19 Aug 1848 in Montgomery Co., Indiana to Lydia Fouts, b. 25 Feb 1827 in Indiana to Levi and Sarah (Small) Fouts, d. 10 May 1893 (probably) in Vermillion Co., Illinois. After Lydia's death William G. remarr. to the widow, Sarah Belle Parish on 8 Feb 1898 in Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana. Matthew Brown Chambers was the son of Jacob Chambers of Kent Island, Kent Co., MD - we still don't know his mother's name. Jacob's children were: 1. Jacob Chambers, b. bef. 1776, d. bef. 1821, marr. Sara Hargadine, 2. Matthew Brown Chambers, 3. Richard Chambers, b. abt 1788/1789 in Maryland, marr. Margaret Jump, b. abt. 1791/1792 in Maryland, 4. William Chambers, lived and died in Baltimore, Maryland, never married, 5. Betsey!
Chambers, marr. a Mr. Jarrell and a Mr. Warren, 6. an unknown female
and 7. an unknown female. I also found a slip of paper in the Bible which states that Martha Harper's parents were William and Mary Harper - census records state that William was b. abt 1785/1786 in Delaware, d. aft. 1860 and Mary was b. abt. 1786/1787 in Maryland, d. aft. 1870. We're trying to learn more about the Chambers and Broad(a)way and connecting families in Maryland (Caroline, Kent and Queen Annes counties) and Kent Co., Delaware. My email address has changed to . I would welcome any additional info and am willing to share what I have. Thank you.
