The Rebecca Hughes you noted might be the daughter by his 2nd marriage to Margaret Satterfield by my 3X Great Grandfather James Hughes. He lived in Caroline Co. I believe. He may have had a Sawmill in Greensboro. He died in 1826. His first wife, Nancy (Ann?) Willoughby is the mother of my direct lineal ancestor, Samuel Hughes.
I know absolutely nothing about Nancy Willoughby's family. It was a very common name in Caroline County.
The only clue I have to their background is Hughes Family lore and is undocumented. It Seems that James mother, Elizabeth, arrived in Baltimore in Feb 1770 with an infant son, James, born at sea. She gave him up to be raised by the Willoughbys as an indentured child and he ended up marrying their daughter, Nancy.
There is a James Hughes in the 1800 Caroline Co. census with children that fit pretty well the ages I have for his family.
Mother ,Elizabeth, supposedly married a Clough sometime after arriving in Baltimore. In old marriage records, there was a marriage between an Elizabeth Hughes and a Mr Clough in 1771 or 1772.
Interesting coincidence? or is there a connection with my Hughes and your Willoughbys and Cloughs?
