Hi all,

I will add a comment here. If your relatives were Catholics, a license was not
required by the state of Maryland if banns were read. I have a marriage in July
1874 in Elkton at Immaculate Conception RC Church. A license was not issued. I
believe the law was changed in Maryland about 1880 - but I do not recall the
exact date. The information can be located on the Maryland State Archives
website - really a wonderful resource, btw.

Another relative, also a resident of Cecil Co. went to Harford Co. to be married
in the mid-1860s.

Good hunting!
Georgeanne
