According to the manuscript inventory at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill, William Sample Alexander is the great grandson of JOSEPH
ALEXANDER who immigrated from Scotland to America, first settling in Chester
Co., PA and then in the Maryland Counties of Somerset and Cecil. Joseph's
son James (William's grandfather) purchased land in Mecklenburg...William's
father Hezekiah moved there before 1760....William Sample Alexander's birth
place unknown....The diary is one volume kept by William from 1770-1778.
He operated a wagon train between Mecklenburg and Chester Co.
etc......etc...etc....There is more detail provided in the inventory
prepared by the University.

I just thought the Alexander researchers might enjoy a family journal that
has survived several hundred years.
