Hi Cathy,

Thank you for sending this information, particularly the Hugh Ferguson's
that relate to Cecil and Kent Counties.
The Ferguson I am interested in is John b. about 1795 in MD. He married
Hannah Brisben of W. Nottingham, Chester County, PA. and had the following
childrem: George, b. 1817, Eliza, b. 1819, Margaret, b. unknown, William, b.
1823, Robert, b. 1826, Rebecca, b. 1827, Esther, b. 1829.
There is a John of H in the 1820 census and I think that is the John I am
looking for. If the H truly indicated the father, than his would be Hugh.

In the 1783 Tax list there are 5 Fergusons: 2 are William and Benjamin of
Charlestown. I think the Benjamin is the same one who married Mary Rutter
and that William is his son. This is probably the same Ferguson family who
ended up in ED 1, Cecilton.

Then there are 3 in West Nottingham Hundred, John, Hugh, Thomas. John is
probably the same John who married Sarah Hanna and migrated to Clearfield
County around 1801-2 with his son, John Jr. They appear in the 1790 census
as John Sr. and John Jr. I have been wondering whether John, Hugh and
Thomas are brothers and came to this country around the same time from
Ireland, but can find nothing on Hugh and Thomas, who were still single in
1783. Of course, it can also be coincidence that they all lived in West
Nottingham Hundred at the same time.

The next Hugh I find in Maryland is in the 1800 census in Kent County.

Well, the search goes on.

Thanks again,
Kathryn
