Cecil County, Maryland, Revolutionary Patriots Listings, Page 54
HYLAND, JOHN. Ensign in Capt. William Veazey's Company in the 30th
Battalion in 1777 [S-MdHR6636-9-93]. Took the Oath of Allegiance
in 1778 [A-8]. One John Hyland married Martha Tilden on April 29,
1739 [R-94].

HYLAND, NICHOLAS. Private in Capt. Stephen Hyland's Company of
Militia on September 8, 1775 [T-MS. 1814]. Took the Oath of
Allegiance in 1779 [A-8]. Nicholas Hyland, son of Col. Nicholas
Hyland, married Margery Kankey, daughter of John and Ann Kankey,
on August 2, 1764 [R-94].

HYLAND, STEPHEN [1743-1806]. Son Capt. John Hyland and Martha
Tilden. Stephen married first to Rebecca Tilden in December, 1774,
and had a son John [born 1775], and then to Araminta Hamm on March
20, 1777, a granddaughter of Augustine Herman of Bohemia Manor, and
had Stephen, jr. [married first Marie Kankey and second Marjorie
Maulden], Nicholas [born 1779], Jacob [born 1781, married Elizabeth
Thackery], Mary [married William Craig], Martha [married William
A.Schaeffer] and Lambert [R-49, U-417]. Stephen was a Justice who
administered the Oath of Allegiance in March, 1778 [A-8]. He served
as a delegate to the State Provincial Convention on May 16, 1775
[I-2, K-2]. He was commissioned a Captain by September 8, 1775, a
Lieutenant Colonel in the 18th Battalion in 1777-1778 and a
Colonel, in the 30th Battalion, on September 9, 1778, and served
at least to 1781 [C-31, C-87, E-57, J-522, J-523, K-116, K-2
S-MdHR6636-9-93, S-MdHR4570-72, P-438, T-MS.1814].

To his bro. John Hyland, slaves.
To dau. Rebecah [Kankey], 30 lbs. Penn. currency.
Son Nicholas, to pay annually to my mother Rebeccah Wye, 10
lbs. Penn. money.
Balance of estate to my children, as follows: Nicholas,
Stephen, John, Lambert and Miliscent.
Wit: Nicholas and Isaac Hyland, Nicholas Hyland Miller 35.20
