I think the children of Joseph Wood (and Francina Herman) do match
that 1721 will:
New Castle County wills. Dec 12, 1721 - Dec 21, 1721
Granddau Ann Clerk; wife; son Joseph Wood; dau Jean Clerk; dau
Susannah Empson; son-in-law Ebenezer Empson; dau Leticia; dau Rebecca.
Exec., son Joseph Wood & Ebenezer Empson. C361. This will can be seen
in Google books:
A Calendar of Delaware Wills, New Castle County, 1682-1800, p. 25
http://books.google.com/books?id=A_wPAAAAYAAJ&
I have:
William Wood +1687 & Susannah Markel +
1. Joseph Wood +1721 & Francina HERMAN 1662-1749
He md again ca 1714 Ann (nee) Bowers (widow) 1668-1723
1.1. Joseph Wood
..... & ca 1709 Martha England
1.2. Robert Wood ca 1685-/1721
..... & Catherine RUMSEY
1.3. Jennie (Jennetje, aka Jean) Wood 1693
..... & Thomas Clark (ch: Hannah, Francina & Ann CLARK)
1.4. Susannah Wood
& Ebenezer EMPSON ca 1683
1.5. Letitia Wood
&1716 Samuel LOWMAN
1.6. Rebecca Wood
The Joseph Wood-Francina Herman children do not match the 1723 will of
Anne Wood (widow of Joseph, proved by the land record I posted)
because she had no children with Joseph Wood. She had been married
previously to Winlock Curtis, with ch. Ann Curtis [1690-1747 --md.
Robert Clay who d. --then md 19 February 1721, Philadelphia, to Robert
Bolton] and Jehu Curtis [1692-1753 --who was an exec of Anne Wood's
will].
I think widow Anne Wood of the 1723 will is this lady here:

Something is not right somewhere. But that 1728 land record is very
compelling evidence.
Could a different Francina Wood be the one who was buried on 1 July
1749? Another Francina Wood was a child of Joseph Wood (son of Joseph
Wood and Francina Herman) and his wife Martha ___.
The Francina Wood who died 1749 was buried at Emanuel Church, New
Castle, Delaware. Joseph Wood (whose wife was Francina Herman) were
members, but probably so was his son Joseph a member.

I didn't either until two days ago, when I found this land record.
New Castle County Delaware Land Records:
8. Deed. 20 July 1727. Charles Read and Henry Hodges, both of the City
of Philadelphia in Prov. of Penn., merchants, and Jehu Curtis of
Newcastle Co., Gent., execs of the Last Will and Testament of Ann
Wood, late of Newcastle, Widdow, dec'd, for the sum of 220 pounds,
sold unto William Read of the Town of Newcastle, merchant, a tract of
land with appurtenances, situate in Swanwich in sd. Co. It begins at
the Dyke that runs up the marsh up Delaware and bounds land of Peter
Jacquett and contains 320 acres. This is land that Joseph Wood, late
of said Co., Gent, dec'd, by virtue of sundry conveyances was seized
of. By sd Wood's Last Will dated 12 Dec 1721 he did bequeath sd land
with appurtenances unto his wife, Anne Wood. Then sd Anne on 7 Oct
1723 did make her Last Will in which she appointed Charles Read, afsd
Henry Hodges and Jehu Curtis as Executors. Signed: Cha. Read, Henry
Hodges, Jehu Curtis. Wit: David French, John Gooding. Ack: Nov. 1728.
(I1-10) [Pp 2-3, New Castle County Delaware Land Records 1728-1731 & 1734-1738,
by Carol Garrett]
We need a reference for the 1749 burial date of Francina Wood,
whomever she was.
It would be important to find by what "sundry conveyances" Joseph Wood
came into possession of this 320 acres at Swanwick. I need the earlier
NCC land records books. I suppose a copy of the Joseph Wood 1721 will
will have to be ordered too.
Thanks again,
Liz J
