Subject: [MDCECIL] Thomas John In Loudoun Co.VA and Thomas John and Rebecca,New Castle
Date: Sun, 25 May 2008 18:44:12 -0700 (PDT)
I was asked off list for clarifications on my Thomas John, SR born ca 1700 in Cecil County, MD or in Delaware ? I am trying to prove who his parents are.
Here are some abstracts of records I have:
Thomas John, SR. was a witness with John Hyland and William Foster to
will of James Veasey. Dated : 10 Sep 1753 Proven: 25 July 1766, Cecil
Co., MD. Thomas John SR was living in Loudoun Co., Va at the time.
Thomas John. SR will is dated 1770 in Loudoun Co., Va. . I have a copy of it. His son, Thomas John, JR died in Loudoun the year before in 1769 of which I have a copy of it too.
Here are some records:
July 31, 1740, E-166, THOMAS JOHN, late from PENNSYLVANIA but now of Prince
William Co. VA, 502 acres, adj. John Mead, Kiticktan Cr., Col. John Colvill,
Jacob Janney, Messrs Cocke & MERCER. (Va. Northern Neck Land Grants
1694-1742, compiled by Gertrude E. Gray)
Thomas John, SR moved from Cecil Co., MD to Prince William Co., Va. by 1739. Neither Thomas John SR or JR moved while living in in Va. Prince William County is the parent county. Fairfax County was formed from it in 1742 and Loudoun was then formed from that in 1757 but the land was around the original place in Prince William County... only new counties were formed... nothing else.
These are records which MIGHT be my Thomas John SR. father but I haven't proven it yet but James Veasey was in the Cecil Co., MD neighborhood and was a neighbor. My Thomas John. SR was living in Loudoun Co., VA when he was called to witness the Veasey will.
This might be Thomas John SR father or grandfather ???
13 Feb1713 - John Smith and Jane his wife and Rees Hinton, of Elk
River, Cecil Co., deed to Thomas John of Iron Hill, Newcastle upon Delaware
Co., yeoman, 400 acres the northern part of Bella Connell
There is a 1737 Cecil County Deed which mentions an earlier sale:
Thomas and Rebecca John sold Ballyconnell to the father of Samuel Jones.
23 Apr 1715 Thomas John of Iron Hills, Newcastle on Delaware Co., and
Rebecca his wife to Lewis Jones of Abbington, Philadelphia Co., 400
acres of land called Bellconnell.
>From more that I read, this piece of land called Ballyconnell (or
something close) was located near the Elk River and would have made Thomas
John a neighbor of James Veazey's.

Thomas John was in Prince William County, Virginia in 1739 and Fairfax
County and Loudoun county was formed from it and Thomas John's will is in
1770 in Loudoun. He married Mary unknown. Their children were :
(1) Rachel Reynolds married William Reynolds from New Castle, Delaware
(2) Jane Cox of Carolina. She married Harmon Cox.
(3) Susanna Matthews of MD
(4) Mary Harris wife of Samuel Harris, Loudoun Co., Va.
The Executor of his will was Richard Williams, and witnessed by George
Gregg, Abner Howell and Owen Roberts.
In 1766 in Cecile Co., MD Thomas John while living in Loudoun Co., VA was
a witness to the 1766 will of James Veasey of Cecil Co., MD.
I am posting again because of the associations in the deed. I was thinking
some of these names were part of the Merion Welsh Tract especially the Awbrey surname.
