I think this is the mailing list that wanted the password to the archives. I
inquired about a password and received this reply:

Dear Ms. Thompson:

As you may know, the Maryland State Archives, with the support of the
Administrative Office of the Courts, has been in the process of establishing
the www.plats.net (commonly referred to as PLATO) web site for the delivery
of electronic images of subdivision, condominium, survey plats via the
Internet. At this time, there have only been preliminary discussions
regarding putting ELROI (the State's Electronic land record project) out on
Internet.

PLATO is intended to eventually incorporate image files of all oversized
records that may affect land title. PLATO is free, but requires the use of
the following user name/password combination.

User name: plato
Password: plato#

Note that the user name and password are lower case. PLATO delivers Group IV
TIFF image files of the plats. The standard installation of windows 95/98
incorporates an imaging program that is capable of viewing and printing
these Group IV TIFF images. If you are having trouble viewing the images,
check to see if the Internet browser that you are using is properly set to
view TIFF images.

As of October 2000, the counties that are nearly complete in PLATO are
Baltimore, Calvert, Caroline, Montgomery, Queen Anne's, St. Mary's,
Washington, and Worcester. By the end of 2001, the Archives is scheduled to
have installed the Plats.Net system throughout the state. Scheduled
installation dates are available on the homepage at www.plats.net. Please
note that these dates are subject to change.
