Have located dataon the Canter family going back to 1695 from a variety of
court records - perhaps earlier. I further note an entry in a listing of
early arrivals a candidate for your family in 1668-1670.
Here is the data:
>From the series ABSTRACTS OF THE INVENTORIES AND ACCOUNTS OF THE PREROGATIVE
COURT OF MARYLAND; V. L. Skinner, Jr.; Family Line Publications, [now Willow
Bend Books] Westminster MD; 1993:

>From volume covering 1699-1704 copyright 193 covering libers 20-24: Estate

MARYLAND MARRIAGES; Comp by Robert Barnes; Genealogical Publishing Co.,Inc.;
Baltimore MD; 1975 has a record of Trueman Canter marrying Elizabeth Hecky
24 November 1774, Trinity Parish Register, copy at Maryland Historical
Society.

The early records of John Canter indicate that he may be the man mentioned
in THE EARLY SETTLERS OF MARYLAND; Gust Skordas; Genealogical Publishing
Co.; Baltimore, MD; 1968: "John Canner, transported 1668-1670, Liber 16, f.
532."

A Richard Canter was active in Cecil County in the 1760s, if you want that
data, and Isaac appears to have been active in Dorchester County, if you
want that data.

Hope this helps.
Thom
