For me, the best indicator that Thomas Wharton married into the family
somewhere is this:

106 Charles County Land Records, Volume III
Charles County Court of our Sovereign Lady Anne of Great Brittaine France
and Ireland Queen Defender of the Faith Held at Portobacco in said County on
the second Tuesday in November being the fourteenth day of the month in the
ninth year of the reigne of said Lady the Queen [Some land records, juries,
servants and odd items are abstracted from this section which is mainly
court cases.] 1710
Liber D#2, Page 10 (Court Cases)
Plantations of the orphans of Thomas Wharton, late of Nanjemy, dec'd, rented
to Richard Woodyard
Liber D#2, Page 64 (Court Cases)
Elizabeth Wharton, d/o Thomas Wharton, dec'd, is ordered to live with
Martha Barker to age 16 or day of marriage

Martha is either one of those good ones who take in stray kids and kittens,
or she is an old bag who wants all the free labor she can get. She surely
seems to be the former. She seems to have taken in all the orphans for the
whole family, and then mentioned the living in her will.
