I recently found the death certificate of a gg uncle who died in Providence Hospital- he was also born and raised in Charles C. (Joseph Henry Fowler c. 1840 -1922) but his family moved to Northeast DC at turn of century. If you do not have success, keep trying - DC can be a difficult bureaucracy - I had to go back again because first time they could not "find it" yet I was sure of my info. Good luck!

Jan,
I was supposedly the next to last person born at home in Alexandria, VA on
Nov. 6, 1936. The doctor was in his 80's when he came to my aunt's house at
205 N. Washington St. He was supposedly barred from practice after the
birth of the last child to be born at home when the mother died from
complications. He did not believe in the germ theory of disease and refused
to wash his hands before delivery.
This is all, of course, family belief, how much is really true is unknown.
But it does point out how recent the birth of children at home was in much of
the country.
Regards, Charlie
